Maria's Review

Attending Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Christopher Hampton, performed in the Huntington Theatre, Boston (MA)

I went well prepared to this play. In the past I saw already the 2 TV shows made by Hamptons play write, bought me the book written by Choderlos de Laclos ...: The book is definitely interesting and is based on letters written in 1782 over a certain time period by Cecil Volanges, The Marquise De Merteuil, Compte De Valmont and others.

Although I read some really negative reviews about it I went to the Theatre open-minded and very curious as to how Mr. Daniel Goldstein had created and directed this play... Well it was quite a different approach. What can I say about the performance? Let me say first something about the Theatre. The Huntington Theatre is an old and lovely theatre. I visited in my life, more than once, theatres, big and small, sumptuous or sober, famous or unknown. I saw all kinds of plays at different places and enjoyed all. So it wasn't so difficult for me to enjoy. The stage was nice. The decorum was unpretentious, but stylish and pleasant. The clothing of the characters designed by Erin Chainani not the type of clothing you would expect in Paris of the 18 century. Ms Chainani did a great job. The performance itself was great, all the actors did a great job. However I couldn't understand everything partly due to my lack of good English and partly due to the accent of some of the actors and sure of the rapidity of the spoken word. Sometimes I had trouble to understand what was spoken and had to use my imagination.

Afterwards we have met some of the performers including Mr. Weiss. They all were very kind and they gracefully gave us all an autograph.

Thank you to all of the people for making my visit to the Huntington theatre unforgettable. This remarkable event will stay in my memory forever.
