Michael T. Weiss as Sonny Malevsky

Seriously, y’all. I spent an inordinate amount of time watching The Pretender in first run from 1996 to 2000 on NBC and then in rerun rotation on TNT. Michael T. Weiss was the bomb. When The Pretender ended in 2001, we got one more MOW for TNT, a brief stint on Crossing Jordan in 2003 and 2004, and then Weiss took a break from being on camera. He’s spent the last several years doing animation voice work instead and he’s been missed. I was so very surprised to see him pop up on Blue Bloods this week as Detective Sonny Malevsky before the credits had a chance to tip that he was going to be in the episode. I shouted at the TV when he walked up. It was amazing to see him again and realize The Pretender started 15 years ago. He’s got a more rugged look now than he had when he was younger and so very, very pretty. I think folks took his looks for granted and didn’t give him credit for actually being a very good actor. If he’s coming back to work on camera now, maybe he’ll finally get recognized for that, too. Welcome back, Michael. I hope Blue Bloods uses Sonny again this season. If you missed “Little Fish,” you can catch it now on CBS.com.
