Ask Stacy
By Stacy Jenel Smith
January 28, 2006

Dear Stacy: Aside from reruns, what are my two favorite TV actors (Kyle Chandler of "Early Edition" and Michael T. Weiss of "The Pretender") doing now? -- Barbara B., Manhattan, N.Y.

Dear Barbara: Weiss opened in the Huntington Theatre's production of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" at the Boston University Theater Jan. 6, in the role of seducer Le Vicomte de Valmont. Last year, he appeared in "Burn This" at the Huntington. Kyle Chandler is making audiences grin and groan as narcissistic movie actor Bruce Baxter in the big screen hit "King Kong." He's had two pilots that failed to sell in recent years, in addition to being among the stars of the cable movie "And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself."

TV Tim

Q. When The Pretender went off the air, they said there would be three TV movies. I only saw two. Was a third ever made? - R.H.

A. No. Two TV movies, The Pretender 2001 and The Pretender: Island of the Haunted, were shown in 2001, but their ratings were low and a third film was never produced.

Fans have started a campaign to raise money to produce a third film. Such tactics have failed with higher-profile shows such as Star Trek: Enterprise, but for more information, go to "Frustrated tP (The Pretender) Fans" Web site at tpfans.sansdreamscape.net/

The second season (out of four) of The Pretender will be released on DVD by Fox Home Entertainment on Sept. 20. The four-disc set will include commentaries by cast members Michael T. Weiss and Andrea Parker on one episode and two of the show's writers on another, and a three-part documentary.

TV Mailbag: Internet has answers on former roles of actors

Q: I am writing to inquire about the man who played the part of "The Pretender." What is he doing now? He is a very talented actor in my opinion.

A: Michael T. Weiss played Jarod Russell on The Pretender and some TV-movie sequels. (The first season is on DVD, by the way, with the second season due in late September.)

He has continued to act in recent years, although not in anything as high-profile as The Pretender. (Several fan sites devoted to Weiss seem to have stopped updating once The Pretender was done.) According to the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com), recent credits include the films Iowa and Sledge: The Untold Story.

JICHA Q&A: Dance show a false step or a triumph of soap fans?

August 21, 2005
Tom Jicha

Q. Where did Michael Weiss, the superb actor from The Pretender, disappear to? -- V.A., Eustis

A. Michael T. Weiss has stayed busy, churning out two or three movies a year. Unfortunately, their titles include Sledge: The Untold Story, Marmalade, Iowa and Written in Blood, which is why he might be a little difficult to find.
