BURN THIS
HUNTINGTON THEATRE COMPANY
Through December 12
TV and film actor Michael T. Weiss, best known for his four season stint as Jarod on NBC's "The Pretender," headlines the cast of the Huntington's new production of Lanford Wilson's Burn This, directed by Susan Fenichell. On "The Pretender," Weiss' character possessed the power to quickly learn any job, thus impersonating some 80 different characters in order to allude his former captors. Weiss is steering clear of any impersonation for Burn This, as noted stage and screen actor John Malkovich had long been associated with the role of Pale--a hotheaded and hot-blooded Italian restauranteur with a contempt for the art world. When Pale's brother, a gay dancer, dies in a tragic accident, he faces off with his brother's friends, in particular Robbie's dance partner and roommate Anna. But their mutual grief and sense of loss drives them toward an unexpected intimacy. An important 20th century playwright who penned The Hot L Baltimore, Balm in Gilead and Fifth of July among other works, Wilson recently updated Burn This for a successful 2002 revival in New York.
